Who it's for

Anyone with a bank account, brokerage or fund that paid them interest or dividends, or who sold investments.

Good to know

  • Interest or dividends over $1,500 go on Schedule B; sales go on Form 8949 and Schedule D.
  • If the 1099-B doesn't show your cost basis, enter it yourself, or the whole sale looks like profit and you may get a CP2000.
